BEGINNER GUIDE
Sephiria Beginner Guide
A top-down action roguelite where a brave bunny descends a cursed tower to save Bunnyville. Here's how a run flows and what to do in the first hour.
The core loop
You play a bunny descending a tower floor by floor. Each descent is procedurally generated — layouts, enemy spawns, and chests change every run. Combat is action-first: sweep groups, block telegraphed attacks, and reposition. When you die, the run ends, but you keep the Sapphires you gathered. Those Sapphires unlock Fate Sigils — permanent Talents that make every future run stronger. Progress comes from learning the systems, not from a single perfect run.
Weapons: pick a greatsword first
The game has six distinct weapons, each with 50+ unique upgrades. For a first character:
- Greatsword-class (e.g. Carrot Greatsword). Wide sweeps hit multiple enemies, include a small lunge for repositioning, and have the highest mistake tolerance. Best default.
- Avoid daggers early. High burst but little defense — punishing until you know enemy timings.
- Prioritize attack speed. Around 140% attack speed the combo rhythm clicks and feels much smoother.
- Commit to one weapon. Each has a deep upgrade tree; spread your upgrades and you'll end up weak everywhere.
The Artifact & Tablet grid is the real build
Your inventory is a buff board, not a backpack. Tablets project a cross-shaped bonus zone to adjacent cells; only Artifacts sitting inside that zone get empowered. The right way to build:
- Pick one core Tablet and cluster same-archetype Artifacts around it — don't grab every Artifact you see, or effects clash and your power drops.
- Early on, grab broad Artifacts (like the Golden Bell or Golden Maple Leaf) that fit many builds.
- Shrine interact points on the map refresh and grant new Tablets — they're key nodes for finishing a build.
Online co-op
Sephiria supports online co-op for up to 4 players. You can trade items, share buffs, and revive downed allies, which hugely raises tolerance for mistakes. Co-op is Steam online only — there is no cross-platform play as of the 1.0 launch, so console players can't join a PC room.
First mistakes to avoid
- Skipping the dream tutorial. It's a zero-cost training ground for dash-into-attack and parry-into-counter. Don't skip it.
- Spamming dash. Dash has a cooldown and isn't a free dodge — use it deliberately.
- Hoarding Artifacts. A cluttered grid with no Tablet synergy is weaker than a tight one.
- Only fighting. Every crate and barrel breaks for gold and potions; exploring beats brute-clearing for steady resources.
Before you start
Make sure your machine clears the bar — see the System Requirements page. Then grab up to three friends, or dive in solo, and start descending.
